Riikka Pelo was born in 1972 in Helsinki. In the early 1990s she lived for a short time in Prague where she
occasionally sang with The Ecstasy of St. Theresa, one of the pioneers of the post-revolution
alternative music scene. Media artist, dramatist, essayist, screenwriter, she is currently finishing her
PhD at the Film and Television School at the University of Art and Design of Helsinki. The Heaven-Bearer,
her first novel, was awarded the Tiiliskivi Prize in 2006 and was shortlisted for the Runeberg Literary Prize.
She has participated as a writer in several new-media art productions, including the installation "Tulse Luper Journey,"
based on Peter Greenaway's filmtrilogy, which received the Prix Multimedia at the Mediafestival in Vienna, and
"Obsession," an interactive installation by Pia Tikka, which was awarded the Prix Möbius.
